Brazilian Jiu Jitsu near Old City.
Nine minutes north on 2nd Street or I-95 — or a straight ride up the El. Free parking when you get here.
Old City is short on serious martial arts academies. Logic is the closest one running a real beginner program — not a strip-mall belt factory, not CrossFit with grappling bolted on. Just jiu jitsu, taught in order, by full-time instructors. We're at 1360 N American St, nine minutes north, with a free private lot and a direct El ride from 2nd Street Station.
Why people from Old City train here.
Quick straight shot north.
Take 2nd Street or jump on I-95. You're here in under 10 minutes — usually faster than getting a car back into Old City on a Friday night.
Coaches who actually coach.
Every class is led by a black belt who watches your reps and corrects them by name. You are not paying to figure it out alone in the back of the room.
Beginners in their own class.
White Belt Only classes four times a week. Everyone in the room started where you're starting, and beginner classes don't spar.
Getting here from Old City.
We're at 1360 N American St in Fishtown — 9 minutes from Old City. Three ways to get here, all of them simple.
North on 2nd Street or I-95 to Girard, then west to American Street. Our lot is on site and always free — no meter, no garage rate, no ticket.
Board at 2nd Street Station and ride the Market-Frankford Line to Girard or Berks. Both stops are about four blocks from the door, so the whole trip is roughly 20 minutes with no transfers.
A flat ride up 2nd or Front. There's a bike rental station three blocks north of the academy on N American St if you don't want to bring your own.

You don't need to rearrange your life. These are the slots that work best for people coming from Old City.
What Old City people ask before they walk in.
Why there's nothing closer.
Old City real estate doesn't support 2,000 square feet of matted floor space, which is why the nearest serious academies all sit north and west of it. Nine minutes is genuinely as close as a full-time BJJ program gets to Old City.
Is jiu jitsu a good workout?
It's the best workout most adults will ever do, mostly because you stop noticing it's a workout. Fifty minutes of problem-solving under load — hips, core, grip, and conditioning — and you leave thinking about the technique instead of the treadmill clock.
What your first class looks like.
Arrive ten minutes early, get shown around, and change on site. Warm-up, one or two techniques taught slowly, then drilling with a partner at a controlled pace with a coach walking the room. No live sparring. You'll know exactly what you learned when you walk out.
Who's teaching.
Head instructor Dennis Pressey Jr. — black belt, 18 years training, 12 years teaching. Beginner classes are also led by black belts Markee, Matt, and Gina, a three-time IBJJF world champion. All instructors are SafeSport certified, background checked, and CPR certified, and Logic is an IBJJF-registered academy.
